Parisian wheat prices slid to an 11-week low as traders bet that Russian and Ukrainian exports will rise, easing a supply squeeze that has kept grain markets volatile since the war disrupted Black Sea shipping.
Paris wheat falls to 11-week low on Black Sea exports
The benchmark European contract fell for a fifth straight session to about $6.4075 a bushel, while Chicago wheat and corn also weakened as hopes for a de-escalation in the region reduced the risk premium baked into grain prices. The move comes as the market looks for more cargoes from the Black Sea, where Russia has already expanded its share of global wheat exports to about 26%.
Sentiment Indicators
For buyers, more Russian and Ukrainian grain would ease import costs for millers, foodmakers and livestock producers that have been paying up for coverage against supply disruptions. For sellers, it raises the prospect of thinner margins and more competition in export tenders, especially if more grain from the region hits the market at once.
The pressure has not been limited to wheat. Corn has also slipped, underscoring how broader grain markets are responding to the same export and geopolitical backdrop rather than to crop-specific supply shocks alone.
The next catalyst is any fresh sign from Ukraine war negotiations and Black Sea shipping conditions. If exports continue to normalize, Paris wheat could remain under pressure; if talks stall or logistics worsen, the war premium could quickly return.
