Qura Energy’s stock fell for a third straight session as Egypt’s stock exchange processed the redemption of 20,000 investment units from the EGX 30 index ETF, underscoring weak demand for the energy group’s shares after a sharp run-up earlier this year.
Qura Energy Falls on EGX 30 ETF Redemption
The redemption took total outstanding ETF units to 6.065 million, a small move in isolation but notable because it comes as Qura Energy trades far below its 50-day moving average of 40.20 pounds and its 200-day average of 29.66 pounds. The stock closed at 20.97 pounds on Wednesday, down from 21.28 pounds a day earlier and 21.84 pounds on Monday, leaving it deeply oversold with a 14-day RSI of 6.8.
Sentiment Indicators
For investors, the numbers point to persistent selling pressure rather than a one-off portfolio adjustment. Qura Energy had soared to 48.16 pounds in June on heavy turnover before reversing hard over the summer, and the latest decline suggests momentum traders and passive flows remain on the sidelines while liquidity stays elevated at more than 3.3 million shares.
The broader market backdrop is also fragile. Egyptian equities have been digesting a weak stretch of trading, while the dollar’s recent climb toward 53 pounds has kept pressure on local risk assets and raised concern over imported inflation and financing costs. That makes ETF-related redemptions and large block activity more relevant for names that have already lost technical support.
The key question now is whether the selling reflects broader de-risking in Egyptian equities or simply a temporary reshuffling inside index products. Either way, Qura Energy remains a stock to watch for volatility, with any rebound likely to depend on renewed institutional buying and a stabilization in the local market tone.
