NVIDIA is giving GeForce NOW users more control over image quality and performance, a move that could make its cloud gaming service more competitive without forcing players to upgrade local hardware.
NVIDIA GeForce NOW adds DLSS 4.5 controls
The company said on Thursday it has added DLSS 4.5 controls to the streaming platform, letting members tune sharpness, latency and ray-traced visuals across supported games on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and SteamOS. The update matters because it pushes NVIDIA’s gaming stack deeper into the cloud at a time when the company is trying to extend its GPU ecosystem beyond physical PCs and into recurring subscription services.
Sentiment Indicators
For investors, the significance is less about one feature than about the economics of platform stickiness. Better cloud-streamed graphics can improve retention on GeForce NOW, support premium tiers and widen the addressable audience for NVIDIA’s software-defined gaming tools, all without relying on a new console cycle or a fresh GPU purchase. The controls are most expansive for Ultimate members streaming on GeForce RTX 5080-powered cloud rigs, where Dynamic Multi Frame Generation can be used up to 4X, according to NVIDIA.
The feature set also underscores NVIDIA’s attempt to keep its gaming brand relevant alongside its much larger AI business. The company said DLSS Super Resolution sharpens images, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation reduces latency and stutter, and Ray Reconstruction improves ray-traced scenes. It named 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant and Resident Evil Requiem as titles where players can choose between sharper visuals, faster response or a mix of both.
NVIDIA is also using the update to expand the content funnel around GeForce NOW. Keen Games’ Enshrouded 1.0 and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 are available on the service at launch, and 10 more games are joining the library, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered on Xbox and Beyond These Stars on Game Pass. That gives the new controls more places to show up and helps NVIDIA position GeForce NOW as a convenience layer for players who want high-end graphics without local installs.
The timing comes as the stock remains highly sensitive to anything that broadens NVIDIA’s monetization beyond data-center chips. The shares slipped to $214.13 on Oct. 16 from $221.30 a day earlier, while still trading above the 50-day moving average of $222.96 and the 200-day average of $202.66 in the latest data. That leaves the market focused on whether gaming and cloud software can add another leg to the investment case as AI demand remains the main driver of valuation.
NVIDIA also said DLSS 5’s 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model is getting 2X faster and will debut in NBA 2K27 on Oct. 16 across GeForce NOW, GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. The next test is whether the company can turn these upgrades into paid usage and sustained engagement, rather than just a better-looking demo.
