Fresenius Medical Care is taking 110 million euros in special costs as it reshapes its China business, a move that underscores how the dialysis provider is trading legacy product sales for newer, higher-value technologies in one of its key overseas markets.
Fresenius Medical Care China overhaul costs 110 million
The German healthcare group said the one-off charge will be booked as a special item and is expected to hit results in the third quarter of 2026. The restructuring is aimed at strengthening FMC’s position in China by focusing on innovative blood-cleansing technologies used in treatment centers and intensive care, while adapting the portfolio to local requirements.
At the center of the shift is a plan to roll out several modern dialysis technologies, including a system for high-volume hemodiafiltration. FMC said the same technology is being introduced in the United States and is considered more effective and faster than conventional dialysis systems. In parallel, the company will stop sales and production of older dialysis equipment in China.
China is not FMC’s biggest market, but it still accounts for about 6% to 7% of revenue in the Care Enablement unit, where the company houses its product business. That makes the strategic reset meaningful for margins and product mix, especially as medtech groups face pressure to localize offerings and protect pricing in China.
The announcement comes as FMC’s share price has been under heavy pressure. The stock closed at 8.92 euros on Wednesday, far below its 50-day average of 10.88 euros and 200-day average of 13.17 euros, while the RSI reading of 16.1 points to deeply oversold conditions. Investors will now watch whether the China overhaul can support a recovery in the product business or whether the special charge adds to near-term earnings strain.
