Cottonseed oil cake futures climbed on Monday as traders stepped up fresh buying amid firm spot demand from cattle-feed makers, lifting the December contract 1.07% to 3,405 rupees a quintal on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange.
Cottonseed oil cake futures rise on feed demand
The move matters because cottonseed oil cake is a key feed ingredient, so even a modest increase in buying can ripple through the oilseed complex and signal stronger near-term demand from livestock feed producers. For farmers, processors and commodity houses, higher futures prices can improve realization prospects and encourage tighter inventory management; for buyers, it raises input costs at a time when margins in the feed chain are often thin.
Sentiment Indicators
Analysts said demand from cattle-feed manufacturing companies in the physical market prompted traders to increase the size of their positions, helping the contract gain 36 rupees from the previous session. Volume in the December delivery contract reached 15,300 lots, suggesting the advance was driven by active participation rather than a thin-market move.
The price strength also comes against a backdrop of uneven commodity trading, where end-user buying can quickly overpower speculative positioning. In agricultural derivatives, cottonseed oil cake often acts as a barometer of livestock-feed demand, so a sustained pickup would indicate healthier consumption in the broader animal-feed market and could support crushing margins for oilseed processors if inputs remain stable.
For investors and market participants, the key question is whether this is a short-lived restocking bounce or the start of a firmer trend. If spot demand from feed makers continues, nearby contracts could stay supported; if buying fades, the market may struggle to hold gains given the relatively modest percentage move and the absence of a broader supply shock.
