Asian stocks fell even as U.S. technology shares recovered, underscoring how fragile global risk sentiment remains while investors weigh elevated Treasury yields, a steepening growth-risk backdrop and the durability of the AI-led rally.
Asian Stocks Fall as U.S. Tech Rebounds
The move matters because the rebound in Wall Street tech has not translated into a broad-based lift across regions. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield ended the latest session around 4.96%, with the 10-year/2-year spread at 31 basis points, a sign markets still expect slower growth ahead even as rate pressure stays high.
Sentiment Indicators
That combination is particularly sensitive for equity investors. Higher yields tend to compress valuations for long-duration growth stocks, while a flattening curve can keep pressure on cyclical and export-heavy Asian markets that depend on steadier global demand. Adalytica’s S&P 500 trade signals snapshot also showed “Extreme Fear,” highlighting how quickly sentiment has deteriorated despite a bounce in U.S. tech.
In Asia, Japan’s EWJ ETF slipped to $94.10 from $95.72 in the prior session, while China’s MCHI fell to $49.00 from $50.05. Both remain well below their 50-day moving averages, a sign that the region’s equity recovery remains technically weak even after pockets of AI-related strength on Wall Street.
The U.S. tech rebound itself was led by AI-linked names, but the broader message for investors is that leadership is narrow and vulnerable. QQQ closed at 704.40, below its 50-day average of 725.44, and its RSI reading dropped to 23.7, pointing to a stretched selloff even after a brief stabilization in mega-cap technology.
Investors will now watch whether U.S. tech can hold its recent gains and whether yields ease further. If Treasury pressure persists and global growth sentiment does not improve, Asian equities are likely to keep lagging the U.S. technology rebound rather than joining it.
